Why is it so pricey? What factors go into rates and how are they determined? How can I can save?

Why is it so pricey?
Insurance pricing is based upon many things; your credit, your age, your marital status, your location, your driving record, etc. When a quote is given to a person it is based upon their information, location, property value, type of home they are purchasing, etc. My insurance may be very different from yours as I'm a female, I live in a different city, I might have a different credit score, or I may have tickets/accidents, and on and on.
How do I keep my premiums low?
To start, be a safe driver, pay your bills on time, seek out a personal agent to help keep your policies low (it's free to you!), and be sure to monitor your renewals! Also, bundle!! When you bundle all of your insurance policies together you receive more discounts and, well, isn’t it just easier to remember one person's name and number?
How much does the carrier matter when choosing an insurance policy?
Each carrier has specific and defined credentials when it comes to offering rates; meaning insurance is not a one size fits all! Each carrier is a little different. Some are better in more rural areas, some are better with high risk homes or larger valued homes. It is hard to say this will be the best insurance carrier, however that is why you work with an agent who has the knowledge and expertise to guide you.
How does working with an Insurance Agent differ from going directly to the company?
An insurance agent will take the time to comb through your application to make sure that every discount is offered. And, importantly, that you are properly insured. Going directly online means questions may be missed and discounts that might get overlooked. An Agent can also shop around different carriers and do the leg work for you, vs. you having to apply with each carrier individually. The best part, the agent is paid by the carrier you sign with. There's no cost to you for the help!
